The march comes ahead of an informal 30 June deadline for illegal migrants to leave South Africa.
Public Order Police, along with a sizable contingent of Metro Police officers delayed the start of Saturdayβs march against illegal foreigners on Main Road in Parklands.
Protesters said their action was prompted by violence in April that saw alleged Nigerian gangsters shoot at each other in broad daylight.
The marchers, most of them women, are draped in the South African flag, singing freedom songs.
