A new core set and some incredible new miniatures are on the way for the World of Legend, here are the highlights.
That’s right! A new core set is on its way for Warhammer: The Old World, and it sees brand new Warriors of Chaos facing off against the forces of Grand Cathay.
This is the first time that there has been a core set for Warhammer: The Old World that includes two armies. Even better, they’ve been points matched against each other so you can play balanced games straight out of the box. The core set includes a whopping 54 miniatures:
1 Cathayan Grand Cannon with Ogre Loader & crew
The box also includes everything you need to play, including rules, dice, templates, a playmat, and more. The new core set is a great way to start your adventures in the World of Legend, begin a new army, or introduce a friend to Warhammer: The Old World.
The Grand Cathay models you’re likely familiar with, but they face off against a brand new host of Chaos Warriors and Knights, available in this set for the first time. Let’s take a closer look…
Leading the charge is a pair of new Champions – one on foot, and the other riding a vicious Daemonic Mount, and they come with a wealth of weapon and equipment options.
In battle, they can be used to represent Chaos Lords, Exalted Champions, or Aspiring Champions – each capable of leading your army to victory for the Dark Gods. One of them may also carry a battle standard to inspire your warriors to even greater acts of brutality.
Of course, your mounted Champion will need a unit to lead. Enter the new Chaos Knights – brutes clad in heavy plate, and armed with great lances to impale their foes as they crash home.
They hit like living wrecking balls, capable of frontal assaults where their armour and shields protect them from return attacks. Use their speed and power to devastate enemy flanks before they know what’s hit them. They are also compatible with hand weapons from the new Chaos Warriors kit, should you wish to personalise your unit by swapping out the lances.
Speaking of which – mop up anything that survives your Knights’ charge with the new Chaos Warriors. With their horned helmets and jagged weapons, they strike terror into their foe’s hearts (before tearing them out!)
These miniatures are the first new plastic Warriors of Chaos for the Old World for a very long time. They are packed with characterful details, and are ready to march from the frozen north to bring devastation everywhere they go.
But that’s not all that’s on the way for the forces of Chaos. Can you hear the beating of fell wings on the air?
The terrible two-headed Dragons of Chaos are nightmarish and malevolent predators. Only the mightiest of Lords can bend such a creature to their will – and with this new plastic kit, that could be you!
This imposing centrepiece miniature towers over the tabletop. It can alternatively be built as a Sorcerer on Chaos Dragon, making it easy to add speed, savagery, and sorcery to your Warriors of Chaos army at the same time.
Whether you build the Lord or the Sorcerer on the Chaos Dragon, you’ll be able to assemble the other character on foot to support your marching Chaos horde.
The new core set includes a revised edition of the Warhammer: The Old World Rulebook, which has been updated with all the latest online FAQ. This version of the rulebook will also be available separately, but this isn’t a new edition of the game – your existing Warhammer: The Old World publications are still valid.
The rulebook also contains the rules for Battle March – a small-scale way to play with 400-750 point armies, offering faster battles, which was first introduced in Arcane Journal: The War of Settra's Fury. It’s ideal for representing raiding parties, vanguards, and outriders. If you’re a general who likes a tactical challenge but wants a game that doesn’t take as much time – lunchtime games, league play in your local hobby club, etc. – Battle March is for you.
Along with the rules in the rulebook, there will be a Battle March: General’s Companion, packed with example muster lists, campaign rules, and six narrative scenarios. There are also additional rules and special magic items for use in Battle March games.
Two new boxed sets will allow you to jump straight into Battle March – one for the Warriors of Chaos and one for Grand Cathay. These sets are also a great way to start a new army or easily add reinforcements to an existing one, including expanding the forces from the new core set.
The Warriors of Chaos Battle March set includes:
The Battle March set for Grand Cathay has the following miniatures:
As well as the new miniatures, the Warriors of Chaos are getting a new Arcane Journal. This supplement opens up new ways to use your Marauders, Warriors, and Knights as you spread ruin across war-torn Westerland and towards the border with Osterlund.
Along with background, lore, and artwork, the Arcane Journal includes a new Army of Infamy where you can combine the Warriors of Chaos with the Beastman Brayherds, and rules for your Wizards to manipulate the Winds of Magic in new ways. You can also create your own custom Champions of Chaos and Brayherd Chieftains to lead your forces.
Finally, three card packs are coming for Warhammer: The Old World.
Arcane Magic Ploys is new, and works with the new magic rules in Arcane Journal: The March of Chaos. The Common Magic Items and Lores of Magic reference card packs are also being re-released, updated with any errata made since they originally came out.
We’ll have more on the new Warhammer: The Old World releases as we get closer to their pre-order date. For now, head on back to our hub to see the rest of today’s reveals.
