Liverpool will require some extra firepower this summer if the Reds are to flourish under Andoni Iraola.
The new Anfield chief is already making substantial progress in the summer transfer market, with three potential signings seemingly open to a move to Merseyside. The club invested around $600 million in fresh talent last summer, securing the services of players such as Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez.
While these acquisitions have yet to reach their full potential, Iraola will be optimistic about extracting maximum performance from the existing squad. The Liverpool boss is also monitoring the ongoing World Cup closely as he formulates his future strategy.
A number of players are catching the eye at the prestigious tournament across the Atlantic, which could prove expensive for the Reds as their valuations continue to rise.
Diomande currently sits at the summit of Liverpool's transfer targets. Nevertheless, RB Leipzig have already turned down the Reds' offer of Β£86 million ($113.5 million) for the Ivory Coast international.
The Bundesliga outfit is demanding closer to Β£112 million ($148 million) for the transaction, while publicly maintaining the winger is unavailable at any valuation, according to the Daily Mail. Leipzig is believed to be preparing to offer Diomande a new contract with a significant release clause.
It is understood that the 19-year-old is enthusiastic about the move to Anfield, and there is internal dissatisfaction with the player and his agent over the length of the negotiations. It's suggested the Reds might opt to meet Leipzig halfway and put forward a Β£100 million ($132 million) bid for Diomande.
Another winger under consideration by Liverpool is Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola. The 23-year-old, presently on duty with France at the World Cup, is reportedly weighing up his future in Ligue 1 after three successful seasons.
He's secured two Champions Leagues and three league titles since his transfer from Lyon to PSG in 2023. Arsenal was originally leading the race to sign Barcola, according to the Metro, with reports last week suggesting the Gunners were preparing an approach.
Nevertheless, Liverpool did consider pursuing the player last year, with French outlet Le10Sport reporting that Anfield officials have renewed their interest this summer. The outlet stated that Barcola is "thrilled" at the possibility of joining the Reds and is "excited" by Iraola's vision. Another rising star in European soccer, any deal with PSG would probably demand a fee similar to Diomande's.
Finally, while Adam Wharton hasn't been explicitly linked with a move to Liverpool, he could be seeking a switch to the Premier League's top tier following a trophy-laden period with Crystal Palace.
The midfielder secured the Conference League with the Eagles last season and also counts the FA Cup and Community Shield among his accolades. Palace co-owner Steve Parish is keenly aware that the club faces the prospect of losing Wharton due to his ambitions to compete in the Champions League.
TeamTALK reports that Liverpool is planning to construct its midfield around Dominik Szoboszlai and Wharton, who remain central to Iraola's vision. It's understood that the two clubs could reach an agreement for the 21-year-old, who is valued at approximately Β£60 million ($79 million).
A combined expenditure of roughly Β£260 million ($343 million) would be required to secure all three players for Anfield. Following last summer's substantial outlay, it represents another enormous investment, but one that would provide Iraola with the perfect foundation to deliver silverware next season.
